It Is The Lord's Passover
It Is The Lord’s Passover
Exodus 12
Exodus 12:11 “And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded,
your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in
haste: it is the Lord's passover.”
Ezekial 18:23 “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should
die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and
live?”
Know God’s heart. He has relented in the past from inflicting
upon man his due consequences. We see in
dealing with Israel, a touch and go nation, He has promised destruction for sin
then turned away when repentance is found.
In the great climax of Moses, Pharoah, and
Egypt, God is found providing a way out for His children. He is coming with His wrath. His instructions are clear. Honor Him by obedience and the destroyer will
not visit their abode. Take the lamb. Kill it and dash the blood about the
doorway. Eat it in haste and leave none
of it until morning.
So important is this point in Israel’s
history, that God reorganizes their calendar beginning with this first month of
Abib. Israel is to celebrate yearly the Passover
meal with the Feast of Unleavened Bread following for the next week. They are to kick off the festival with a sabbath
rest and end with the same. This sacred
holiday is the biggie.
Why?
On the surface, it’s not about God’s favor He did Israel in getting them
out of slavery. No, Passover was the complete picture. As if God could give no clearer picture of
His Son and the cross.
They walked the ten plagues. Tensions mounted. Pharaoh played his games. God’s power was shown in dominance over Egypt's gods. God announced His plan of the
Passover as the only escape. Thirteen
hundred years later, God showed us Jesus was the only way of escape.
God desires to lavish upon Mankind mercies
unfounded. It is indeed His Passover. But just as the camel must pass through the
eye of the needle, pride must be thrown off our backs before we enter in. We must acknowledge our need for His Son’s
work. If not, He will not pass over us.
