America The Beautiful
America The Beautiful
Like no other nation, this one truly
reigns. In military strength, no. Neither in population nor natural resources. We reign in influence.
Beauty: the quality or group of qualities in a person or
thing that gives pleasure to the senses or the mind. That’s what Merriam says.
God terms it likewise:
Beauty: 1 Peter 3:3 “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of
plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;4 But let it be the
hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament
of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”
If we are to think of America as a woman,
does she walk in this manner? If we think
of America as a man, does he walk so:
Beauty: 1 Timothy 6:11 “But
thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”
Beauty therefore, is a high calling. America is comprised of individuals making choices
everyday. We lead to the left or pull to
the right. Do we walk straightly,
seeking noble characteristics?
America the beautiful. She is a sum of her parts. Upon her head is the crown. Rubies and sapphires with diamonds so
fitted. Her blood fixes the stones in
their mountings. Commonality we find as
none is exalted. Each person of worth is
given display.
America has rolled in turmoil to arrive at
equity amongst its citizens. She poses that
beauty is attainable for all. In seeing
through the eyes of God, no man or woman lacks this benefit so given by
Him. God surely perceives the
heart. America gives way.
Here we find a land so inviting. We know challenges to our nature. The temptation to fight and kick as hungry
dogs devouring those not apportioned. Nothing
it seems can give hope to overcome yet standing in the bay, she still lights. Liberty holds the torch. “Please come and be more than what was.”
We now find a great country giving opportunity. It is not in freedom of thought or
belief. It is a chance for each citizen
to shine in beauty and so influence the world.
This charge she shares with others, however historically the catapult
has been to her advantage. No nation has
vaulted such adversity to craft a charter compelling its citizens to reach for
more. “Beauty!” She calls us to wrap its
tapestry about covering what nakedness we had previously known.
America the beautiful. We extend our influence over the seas. Will the world see a rainbow of virtue?
