Indefinite Zero
Isaiah 14:10 “All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also
become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave,
and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover
thee.12 How
art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut
down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”
Revelation 20:1 “And I saw an angel
come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain
in his hand.2 And
he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan,
and bound him a thousand years,”
Revelation 20:10 “And
the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,
where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night
for ever and ever.”
I have never been
tempted by Satan. Don’t think. I mean, I’m a small man and he works the big
leagues. He handles folks like Jesus and
world leaders. His minions he has spread
across this globe that they may promote mischief. But for the most part, he doesn’t know my name.
So, do I give him
too much credit? How arrogant it would be to
think he gave me the time of day! Still,
he plays a part that affects me every day.
Confused are we
about the origins of Satan? Created a
chief angel, perhaps on level with Michael and Gabriel. According to Isaiah, he brought worship to
God. Not being satisfied with this, he falsely
attained to be the focus of worship. In
other words, he wanted God’s position.
He created the rebellion inflicting angels with the cancer of dissatisfaction. After much tolerance, God found them no place
in Heaven any longer. He cast him and a
third of the angels down to the earth to roam here. They were not happy with their new
habitation. Tormenting man who was
created like God became their new focus.
Such the warfare.
Kingdoms in
conflict? No, Jesus has a legitimate
kingdom. Satan’s rebellion is a group of
ill-mixed spirits spawned off what was pure power. His grouping reminds me of guerillas running
a cartel in Columbia. At one time
heavily armed, but now stripped at the cross.
He literally says He disarmed principalities and powers, making a public
spectacle of them. The Lord Jesus took
away their weapons.
If he organizes himself
in a loose confederacy now, what is his power?
Fear. His voice is quiet like a
small worm in the crack of our doubt. He
exploits whatever weakness afforded him.
His chief aim is to persuade us that God is not who He says. Hence, in whatever state, his goal remains
the same. If we question the nature of
God, and continue to walk in that, he has won the battle.
God has revealed
Himself as light with no shadow. Absolute
goodness with a love disposition to His creatures continually. Satan works to confuse. A slight bend gives way to break as he
subtility applies more pressure to our fissure.
His ways are the same. Originality
is not within him. We are to be wise.
What is Satan’s
threat to me today? His voice is heard
through the megaphone of the world. Its
people lay under his sway as he churns the currents. I must walk here while the muck sticks to
my boots. Demons cling hoping to
impede. They train others with ears
attentive. His sons and daughters give
way to selfish desires, finding satisfaction with his offered means. Hence, it’s a bumper car journey.
One day resistance
will be stripped of its moorings. No
longer will he be afforded a place here.
Cast into a burning lake, he will be tormented forever in sight of our
Lord.
