Why We Need Him
Why We Need Him
Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
Saved from what? More than graffiti on a bathroom wall. “Jesus saves.” Understanding gives way to great
appreciation. His blood an offering and
our hands willing to carry a cup to the altar, what does it do? Upon examination we walk away this day with a
new praise.
First, Jesus saves us from His Father’s
hand.
Ephesians 2:3 “Among whom also we all had our
conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of
the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath,
even as others.”
Wrath – strong vengeful anger or indignation
Indignation - anger aroused by something unjust, unworthy, or
mean
Second, Jesus saves us from ourselves.
Galatians 5:19 “Now the works of the
flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness,20 Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,21 Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I
have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God.”
Third, Jesus
saves us from the world.
Luke 23:20 “Pilate therefore,
willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.22 And he said unto
them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of
death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.23 And they were
instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices
of them and of the chief priests prevailed.”
Lastly, Jesus saves us from the devil.
Revelation 20:13 “And the sea gave up
the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were
in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.14 And death and hell
were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.15 And whosoever was
not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Galatians 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Jesus comes to intervene. In mercy, He pleads with the Father to reward
not.
Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to
save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to
make intercession for them.”
Upon conception, we wake up on the wrong
side of the bed with God. From there we
head south giving in to our inborn bent.
Unless corrected, we fall away from goodness. We need a savior. One who has been here and knows the struggles
of this life. One who has overcome to
give us hope that He has the power. Praise
God! He has provided.
