Solomon's Venue

Solomon’s Venue

II Chronicles 6

I do not remember God putting Solomon in the rank of Noah or Moses.  Job certainly not.  Abraham walked and confronted his enemy. Surely humility before God was their mark,

Solomon, on the other hand, did say he lacked.  God gave him the wisdom to rule His people.  Then why does it seem his dependence stopped there?  Something got in the way.

I see Solomon on the red carpet, dressed in the latest fashion, as he shows off his new wife.  The camera flashes are lighting off almost blinding.  He even smiles and poses informally for the paparazzi as he sits on his porch and drops the grapes into his mouth.

2 Chronicles 6:13 For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

Now that’s a stage.  Did Solomon bring Hollywood to Israel?  Did all the camera flashes get to his head?  Did he see himself elevated above the common man?  Something was amiss here.  Can’t blame the foreign wives for turning him.  Solomon first had to open the door.

Definition of vanity:  excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements.

Ironically the second definition is: the quality of being worthless or futile

I think he took the first definition here.  Ecclesiastes in his feelings of worthlessness comes later.

Could the wisest man on earth be carried off to his “I love me” wall?  The temple wasn’t the only thing he built.  He enshrined Jerusalem with other buildings perhaps more grandeur than the temple.  God revealed people as they were.  Solomon was no exception.  The desires of his heart told the man.  With Solomon, all he missed was the giant white letters on the hill.
