God’s Humane Society

Ephesians 3:5 “Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:”

     KTIV 4 runs its weekly pick of the litter.  In a promotion to highlight the Humane Society’s mission, the news channel selects cute pictures and broadcasts that the animal is available for adoption.  Been there.  Cage upon cage keep once wanted dogs and cats in holding until their time.  Either to a new home or to incineration.

     So closely the metaphor follows.  These animals are not purebreds. Hence, the Society puts a monetary amount upon them.  The Society assigns worth.  Mixed breeds find their belonging under a roof of temporary confinement.

     Israel’s tribes are purebreds.  Their papers confer a blood line back to Adam through Abraham.  To them were entrusted the oracles of God.  Furthermore, His covenanted promises are available to them.

     Gentiles are the mixed breeds.  Ancestors lost, we weave our way up through history like a messy plate of spaghetti.  Part this, half and half, and Heinz Fifty-seven.  Likewise, our spiritual heritage looks like a motely clay mold.  Jesus with the woman at the well stated:

John 4:22 “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”

     Since Adam, God’s revelation followed perfect generations to Noah.  Picking up the ball with Abram, He took pleasure in working with ones descended from him.  Jacob became Israel and twelve tribes split from his loins.  They were entrusted to carry the truths of God.  Thus, salvation came only by the purebreds.

     What was the rest of the world doing?  Well, we bowed down to whatever our imaginations would fashion.  Trees, rocks, gold.  That sort of thing.  Our God affectionally called us heathen or everything not Jewish.  Entire civilizations were built around idolatry. Fruits of human sacrifice and torture fell from our trees of self-exaltation.  Ostracized from Israel, we sought reconciliation with God our own way.

     But God had a secret.  A plan He set out before time was created.  After Christ’s sacrifice came His Spirit poured out on all flesh.  Peter was first to witness:

Acts 10:44 “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

     “For God so loved the world…”  It is God who assigns worth and seeks to draw all men unto Himself.  Purebred and mixed breed mean nothing now.  His promise of the Spirit is available to all.

God's Successive Revelations

  God’s Successive Revelations Search Me diligently, and I will reveal Myself to you.      Yah, that sound like something God would say.   I understand He revealed the Trinity to us.   I plead ignorance in Church history.   Some theologians, perhaps 400 A.D. came upon this gem that we hold true today.   The idea of the rapture is new on the Church radar.   Late 1800’s?      What if God revealed His truth to His people in time?   Surely, Solomon was the wisest man in his day, but did he know about Pentecost?   Daniel, the far seer, was only shown glimpses.   What did he know of Peter and miracles in the temple?   A certain king discovered God’s truth again and that made for a reformation, but what did he know of the beast standing in the sea?   God gives insight in His time.      I have trained seven children.   As young  children, I did not flood them with...
