Giving Jesus The Place Of Honor

Giving Jesus The Place Of Honor

Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

Luke 14:11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Daniel 5

God has given us a heart.  It is the seat of the will.  It is where the throne of our being is located.  In this throne room, we daily hear messengers from our mind (thoughts) and soul (feelings).  After hearings, we execute an action (will) and it is commanded forth through our extremities to affect our environment.  Then feedback comes as our mind and soul interpret the outcome of our action.  This procedure goes on repeatedly throughout the day.

So what happens when we ask Jesus into our heart?  Does He sit on the throne?  Does He take the driver’s seat so to say?  Does He say, “Move over! I’m King now.”  Hardly.

Daniel gives us understanding as he describes the king’s counsel.  After interpreting King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, Daniel was exalted as top advisor.  Later, Belshazzar lowered his position and listened to magicians instead.  Belshazzar’s choice cost him his throne.

When we ask Jesus into our hearts, He takes up permanent residence as an Advisor.  Messengers come in and we can consult with Him about the news.  But, in the end, we have final say because we sit on the throne.  We sign the ultimate decree and command our body to action.

Jesus will not yell to be heard.  He submits to our sovereignty while respecting our dignity.  How much He influences our decisions depends upon us.

Can you picture the throne room of your heart?  Upon the wall, the Ten Commandments are hung.  Other verses may embellish the woodwork as you read and memorize His Word.  You may so decorate your throne room with images that remind you of God.

When you were first saved, Jesus enjoyed sitting at your right hand.  His counsel was pure and His voice was unique.  He was very close to your ear.  As time passed, other advisors secretly crept in.  One called Human Reasoning.  One called Question.  Another called Self Determination.  These competed with the Lord’s voice.  His advice wanned as you listened to ungodly counsel, enacted commands, and suffered consequences.

Upon trial and error, you commanded these advisors beheaded as you worked to hammer out your salvation in true righteousness.  You reinstated Jesus again as top Advisor.  His counsel you gravely sought because you knew your decision’s implications.

You are the king.  You have always been. Before Christ and now with His indwelling presence.  You make the choice.  You will then act.  Actions hurt or heal your mind and soul.  Jesus wants to partner with you.  He is willing to advise even in the smallest matters.
