Ghosting Isn't New
Ghosting
Isn’t New
Romans 16:17 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause
divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid
them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but
their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the
simple.”
A cold wall of silence
isn’t fair? Depends if you act as a
child and use abandonment as a weapon.
But, in this case, Paul addresses the church to nearly cut off the ones
who habitually speak with a divided tongue.
In another instance, he tells to confront a divisive person once, then
twice, then expulse them from the church if they refuse to stop. Wow!
Sounds drastic.
God is a drastic God. He feverishly protects His own. To touch them is to touch the apple of His
eye. God violently comes to the aid of children
suffering. So He speaks health to the
congregations when He commands the cancer be removed. He cares.
The Beginner’s Bible published by
Zondervan is written and illustrated for children. I started reading it to my
granddaughters. Its pictures are bright,
sunny and full of color. Its themes are consistent
with the Word. Some details are left out
as the stories are simplified. It is
good. Good for children.
As we grow older, our encompassing
understanding of God’s character leads us to conflict. We strive to comprehend. We stand up for righteousness. We bear the cross of identity within and about. We are persecuted. We endure.
We overcome adversity. All in the
name of maturity.
For a child, these are hard things to take
to bed at night. Gideon’s men cutting
the heads off Midianite leaders could lead to nightmares. Their minds would not balance the new revelation.
Are we as children? Have we matured enough to understand God’s
tough love? God says to set boundaries, physical,
emotional, and spiritual. There are some
people who are not welcome in my house.
I forbid. They cause
divisions. I drastically limit my
involvement with them. I also protect those
impressionable in my home. God commands.
Ghosting isn’t new. Some people have worthless characters. Our responsibility is to stand up for the
noble and shun the awful when their behavior threatens our own.
