Chaos And God

Chaos And God

Chaos: complete disorder and confusion.

In physics: behavior so unpredictable as to appear random, owing to great sensitivity to    small changes in conditions.

Wow!  In this our God?  Do we understand Him as such?  I think others worship another being of this chaotic sorts.  I would call them children of the beast.  Jesus stated the pharisee’s father was the devil.  All unregenerate people follow in the desires of Satan.  So it is safe to say, there are the Godly and there are the ungodly.  A sharp division lies between the two.

So what of chaos?  Satan loves disorder and confusion.  In these hurricanes, he laughs at God for God is a god of order.  His glory is seen in a creation of beauty owing its presence to the One who set the physical laws into motion at the start.  Satan tries to draw men’s eyes off the true God in supposing He is not in control.

Suppose a tornado ripped through your town, flying debris everywhere and demolishing houses at will.  Would this be evidence of chaos?  Is this complete disorder?  But wait, the tornado is just a product of physical laws. When the pressure is such and the temperature is right, the front is formed which spawns tornados.  The path of destruction is determined by atmospheric contents.  The meteorologists may scratch their heads because they don’t fully understand these phenomenons.   Even though they are mysterious, can we classify them as chaos?  Is this truly disorder?

Satan would love to use these events to shine the light on God whom he says is not in control.  After all, a god who does not know how to run His own creation is not worthy of worship.  What the enemy wants to do is inject the slightest bit of doubt into our foundation of trust.  Is God really in control?

How about randomness?  It appears some processes react in a manner unpredictable.  We cannot conceive how God can use the outcome of these runaway processes.  Wow!  Is God still in control of random chaos?

When putting both terms together, we get a picture of Hell.  Nothing is for sure.  Nothing can be counted upon.  Everything that obeys God rules to structure our reality is lost.  Like jumping out of a plane without a parachute, we would be at the mercy of what we couldn’t control.

Maybe that is the fight here.  Man’s control versus God’s control.  We tailor our surroundings to meet our needs.  The chair is made.  It functions well.  Our houses constructed about city streets in uniformity serve us well.  We are working with God’s order whether we acknowledge it or not.  We abide by His physical laws to create our orderly societies.  We are in control because we have created the space for us to occupy.

What happens then when the volcano erupts?  When the hurricane blows or the tornado drills down a community?  Can we say God is not in control?

The matter is this.  God’s control imposes upon Man’s control.  So we fight a battle we cannot win.  The deceiver slips in at these times to affix blame to God.  To those acknowledging God, Satan tries to sell doubt in God’s motive in such catastrophes.  To the ungodly, he puts another nail into their coffin as they understand the world to be inflicted by the events of chaos.

In truth, we understand nothing is out of God’s control.  God’s plans will be hammered out.  He is bigger than Man’s free will.  Man cannot spawn chaos out of his storm-like fits.  Man is not that powerful.  It is God who put creation into motion.  He guides it along with His invisible hands.  It will come to an end as He said, and a new Heaven and Earth He will create.

Chaos does not exist.  However, it is the Satanic perception that can tempt us away.  Even in the freedom He gives Man, God works in a way to keep things in control.  Chaos then is not the focus here, rather it becomes the wonderment of our God.  How does He do what He does?  Awe is defined today.
