Don’t Mess With These Things
Brethren, I implore you. Please respect the enemy.
If I remember correctly, Pastor Dave
Miller from Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa told me of an
encounter he had. He and his associate pastor
were called to a home. Once there, he
found the woman troubled. Something was in
the closest and it would not come out.
Only after repeated reading of scripture, both he and his helper
alternating, did the invisible thing leave.
It brushed by them with coldness.
I believe in demons. I think they believe in me. I have been given authority over them, but
still, I respect the bulls in the pen.
Highly trained professionals encounter
such things. They can systematically
remove them from a person without them coming back. Such, these ministers are worth their weight
in gold. However, foolhardy or gun-happy
Christians who go demon hunting may do more harm than good.
In a prayer service, an individual may
think he has been exercised of the true root only to find confusing plagues
following him in the days to come. In
what was once called deliverance by novice clergy now is called handicap
by those about. And we don’t want
the later condition to be worse.
I plead no expertise. It is a gut reaction to binding and
loosing without due process of spiritual law. They must obey. We can see to it. No, not in incantations nor in repeated
prayers. The demons have all day and
love to see us move our mouths in gibberish.
Certainly the power of the Lord’s name trumps all, but when it is used
in confidence with wisdom, it avails much.
Today, or tonight, let our words be few as
we address these things. Conversation
with them is to delve into darkness.
Nothing is to be gained from such knowledge. Jesus, our Counselor, is faithful to educate
us as need. Surely, He covers our
ignorance when we call to Him for help.
He will not turn away. He still
is the Mighty One. He protects.
