Weary: physically or mentally exhausted by hard
work, exertion, strain, etc.;
Galatians
6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.10 As
we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto
them who are of the household of faith.”
Deuteronomy
5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Gentle thunder outside. Daylight has grown dim. I think I hear small drops of rain. It’s almost like He is saying, “Take it
easy. This is a day of comfort.”
The Holy Spirit is indeed here for our
comfort. Like a mother, She sometimes
cradles us in her bosom. Soft tenderness
we know from her. There are times when
we are most vulnerable. He comes to us and
reassures us we can trust Him to take us through the night.
When our bell has been rung. When the cacophony of this world drives our
mental state to an edge, we reach for our ‘blankie.” God does not condemn or laugh. Jesus Himself had attendants. The Son of God in all His might knew what it
was like to stay up all night and serve.
“They just keep wanting and wanting,
Father. How can I fill their need?”
Another prayer time for Him up on the
hill? He desired to do good continually,
yet His Father said rest.
The rain has come now. It pitters on the glass. Thunder rolls in waves in the distance. I have no plans for this time. Safe I am in a well-lit house. My feet dry as my dog Shadow slumbers
near. If I had a fireplace, it would
flicker lazily. Now, stillness reigns.
God wants us to rest. To lay down the tool of time long enough to
soak in the day. What truly is
important? He says to sit and be
still. Listen with ears, the ones He has
given us.
“Child, relax from your play. Make your hands loose and drop your grip. I do not ask you to run breakneck. Pause and enjoy My goodness.”
He could have said that. Or, He could be speaking in His thunder. Jesus heard once. I think I can today.
