The Need For Slip
The
Need For Slip
I am not an engineer by trade. I am a technician. That means I only dabble in the knowledge so
reserved for them with calculators stronger than mine. However, I have learned, through company
teaching, a few things about the asynchronous AC motor.
Wise am I if I call it a “thing.” That doo-hickey there plugs in the
wall and turns the shaft gizmo. The
gizmo is probably hooked to a fan or pump.
Yah, that’s my knowledge, and I’m sticking to it.
However, one peculiar fact about the
asynchronous AC motor, like in your bathroom exhaust fan, is that it needs slip. Slip is like an electrical clutch going on in
this thing. The switch turns on and the
fan comes to speed, but not instantly.
If it did, it would snap the gizmo and send the fan crashing down into
the bathtub. Thus, this motor needs slip.
Without complications, voltage in the
stator must lead the induced rotor current.
To what degree the actual speed of the motor is to its max speed determines
its power factor. A good power factor of
0.8 to 0.9 is desirable. Thus, the
leader and the follower relationship must exist if the thing is to turn.
Jesus was the leader. His disciples caught up or lagged behind on
the road. Some may even have walked at His
breast. To what degree they stayed in
tune with His teaching determined if they got the daily point. Judging by the ends of the Gospels, their
lights only burned dimly as they still quarreled about Kingdom occurrences. Slip?
Jesus was miles ahead of them.
So how did they come to call? Possession by the Holy Ghost? No, Jesus was too keen for that. He respects
a man to say ‘no.’ Free will
certainly. We are free to tell Him
no. If not, He unjustly judges His
creation condemning some to a hell of destruction and eternal fire. Not Jesus, not this Way.
So today, I reserve the right to follow my
Master or slip behind being sidetracked by the rubber ball I might be playing
with. Being in locked rotor with
Him makes no sense. Only demon possession
takes away the personality of the victim.
Jesus is here for freedom and that’s why I can breathe freely today.
