Biased Tape
Biased Tape
Genesis 2:1 “Thus
the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.2And
on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the
seventh day from all his work which he had made.”
Ecclesiastes 7:8 “Better is the end of a thing
than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud
in spirit.”
Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to
destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
Colossians 1:20 “And, having made peace through
the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by
him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
My wife uses biased
tape in sewing quilts. It is a happy
time when she gets to this stage. Having
meticulously pieced together the inner designs, joining the inner squares, she
adheres the biased tape about the final edge.
The tape binds the rough ends and gives the quilt that finished look.
God used Jesus
the same way. Binding up the unfinished edges
of the old testimony, we see all come to completion in Him. All prophecies, which hinted of a Messiah to
come, were met in the GodMan of Jesus. A
completed quilt so to say.
Going to the state
fair, we see the quilting competition. Judged
on stitching skill and design complexity, one is put ahead of the other. Some are evaluated wholly upon their total
theme. What is the piece saying? Do colors clash and detract one’s attention from
taking in the story? From beginning to
end, did the crafter work in a homogeneous manner? In other words, does the work flow?
In His testament,
we see concurrent events weaving in and out of the pages. Recorded in a chronological fashion, yet some
overlap. Stitched together with His
truth, inner designs tell of His workings with Man. When scanned quickly, it appears they
fragment, not pointing to an end. A mere
collection of books independent in their focus.
A closer study reveals a common stitch pattern joining materials
closely. Colors do not clash, in fact,
when viewed from a distance, they surprisingly complement one another.
When will the end
be? He has given us this piece completed
in His work of the cross. He came to fulfill
all law becoming the perfect sacrifice for us.
“It is finished!” That final
stitch struck down and pierced. The edge
completed.
Has not the Father
overlaid His testimony, extending the fabric to our present and into the
future? He tells of a time of perfect consummation
when all ends will be gathered, none to be lost. His Son, the finishing edge, will run the
entire border. All will yield to His
rule as He echoes the Father’s glory which He enjoyed together with Him at the
start. It is God who displays the tapestry. His Holy Spirit shines the highlights for all
the Heavenlies to see. We, in this
Church age, agree with the Master Craftsman laying out the design square by
square.
The end will
come. Christ will not be denied. He will faithfully complete His work and win for
His Father the blue ribbon.
