A Stiff Drink
A Stiff Drink
Hebrews 11:13 “These all died in faith, not
having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were
persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers
and pilgrims on the earth.”
Ephesians 1:9 “Having made known
unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he
hath purposed in himself: 10 That
in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one
all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;
even in him:”
Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass
afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons
and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young
men shall see visions:”
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses
unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.”
Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also
after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”
John 14:23 “Jesus answered and said unto
him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and
we will come unto him, and make our
abode with him.”
Jesus was God’s mean to an end. It is essential we understand this. To stop at the cross does this Man a great
disservice. Forgiveness of sins and a permitting
of God’s working of sanctification is a huge undertaking. But God did not send His Son to craft perfect
individuals who were once lost in the mire of sin. He wanted more than trophies in His display
case.
God lost something at the Garden. A ripping of His soul and His tears flowed
out like great drops of blood. His closeness
with Adam and woman violated in what His holiness could not stand. He sought reconciliation for Himself and the
good of His creature. Jesus volunteered
and walked the full path to sacrifice needed to make Man a recipient of God’s
grace as He could once more inhabit Man’s being in fellowship.
Sin is such a small matter. Jesus made erasure so easy. If it is a no brainer, then our attention
should be drawn elsewhere.
Jesus is the enabler. He is the facilitator of a greater
work. The cross sparked a wildfire as the
Holy Spirit took over burning dross and purifying Mankind. We, as Mankind, can permit this fire to burn
within us if we kneel at the cross.
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Saved
from what?
Ephesians 2:3 “Among whom also we all had our
conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of
the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath,
even as others.”
John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
1 Corinthians 2:10 “But
God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth
all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
The Holy Spirit of God is what the
ancients yearned for. Understanding the
promise far off, they continued in faith for a day of final consummation. God promised He would come back for
them. They entrusted their final rest to
be with Him.
As declared temples of His Spirit today,
we are the envy of those gone before. Having
died with the Spirit about and not within, they passed before the cross’ work
of purification. We, as cleaned vessels,
hold the Prize.
God wants you. He sent Jesus. His Spirit you can receive into your
being. Union with God now possible. To this end, He worked.
