It is necessary to acknowledge
influences. Positive entertainment is
hard to come by. Like looking for heath
food in the supermarket, sugary substances hang about every checkout. The real food is hidden in aisles called, “Homegrown”
and “Prepare it yourself.” Hunt and pick
then consume contents, sometimes on the premises.
With sixteen immediate eyes watching me, I
paraded before my family a man carried away by a muse. Dancing in the kitchen to AC/DC and banging
my head to Metallica did not bring me the respect I desired. Who would acknowledge a dad given to embarrassing moves
in front of their friends? Did I
dance? Yah, I was caught up in this.
2022 COVID brought a change in me. I lost much of my long-term memory. Short-term was on the rocks also as I referred
to President Trump as that orange haired guy.
Throwing my confidence out the window, I struggled to survive the
day. It was a God ordained way for I leaned
on my wife to do the simplest. My understanding
of Biblical concepts was upended like a pitchfork to roots. Slowly I sifted through them to determine
which to bury again.
I found song to burn the traces back in my
mind. In this relearning, I decided to
apply only the ones which pleased God.
Face it, Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill aren’t the best
meditations. He marked it out clearly in Philippians. “Whatever is noble, just…” I was without excuse because my brothers and
sisters had been busy.
They call it a music ministry. More than random songs slopped down on a CD,
I found many compositions to logically lead.
Intelligence conveyed with an emotional arousal strummed in concert
brought me closer to the heart of God.
Quite often I stopped. Like the
music zeroed me in. Singularly some
focused my soul to a spot of quiet reflection.
These are the powerful tunes intended to
meet and carry me to encouragement.
They don’t create an artificial reality sucked off when the headphones
are dropped. Rather, the craving becomes
His interpretation of the day. I found
the songs to propel and challenge me in making their truths fit into my
awareness.
I am not anything without the
King of Kings, oh yeah!
Help is on the way. A mighty good leader is on the way.
I get down, He lifts me
up. I get down, He lifts me up.
If I keep me eyes on Jesus, I
can walk on water. If I keep my eyes on
Him, I can walk on water.
These lyrics are straight forward. Hidden melodies surfaced in the walk of the
day. What I put in my head early on,
played out later when I found my hands diligently at work. Humming through the noise of the factory
floor, God met me in my ear defenders.
Just us whistling joy while stress threatened panic. God lyrics don’t lead to aggression and
finger-pointing. On the contrary, I
tended to mind my own business like He said.
Take it from a man who has experimented
with music for forty years, God honoring music is the way to go.
