Waiting With God
Waiting With God
God doesn’t find fun in keeping us on the
edge of our seats. Being the master of time, He does not need to
consult Timex before He makes a move.
Yet, His plans can be thought of as a complex zipper bringing together events
as meshed gears in box.
Drive must meet
driven and the clutch is ridden sometimes.
First to second then third. Fourth
meets fifth when the interstate calls.
To get the craft to cruising speed, quite often we need sling-shotted around
Saturn’s second moon. In other words,
events come to accelerate as a catalyst in our reaction. Sudden explosion blows in a direction we need
to escape the terminal velocity of wonder.
Solidity sets down a firm calling as the roller coaster car hitches
underneath pulling up the initial climb.
But what are we to do when floating down the plume not feeling grab of
God? We are sickened with the uneasy
queasiness of not being “locked into” His will.
Jacob did his
time. Doing seven years, he worked for
Rachel. After being tricked, he worked
another seven years. Bolting did not
come immediately. “See yah!” was not in his vocabulary. Sure, he had both wives and his herd was
increasing exponentially, but something gnawed at him. He was getting into a tighter spot. Laban’s face had turned against him and his sons
were getting sore. How long he continued
in tension we don’t know, but God finally came and gave the solution.
Jacob needed to
know God was with him before he made the colossal move. A Haran exodus would be like turning an
aircraft carrier out of a docking bay. Women,
children, herds, and goods brought up the slow movement to the south. In the back of his mind, he knew Laban would
come pursuing. Confrontation on both
fronts. Laban to his rear and Esau at
his face. The liar was caught. Nailed down, he had to fess up for his actions.
No more running. Maybe this is what Jacob feared most.
God knows the
timing. When we are ready for character
change, He offers a solution out of our heat.
Maturity means to leave childish ways behind. Old manners do not fit the new, like buying a
different set of footwear. God provides
hiking boots in exchange for tennis shoes.
Time of change has come. But like
any father, He knows we embrace change only when the old is worn out.
Onto a new
adventure? Has He called you to use a new
faith? Sick of running around the same
block, we crave the new ground. He runs
with us. In circles, we understand His
trust. He zippers us in as we don a new
jacket. Letting the clutch out, we feel
the accelerated grab of this new gear.
Events He uses to propel us to a new orbit.
Waiting is
tough. Not knowing the future calls us
to put our faith in His character not in His plan.
