I Will Stand In His Presence
I Will Stand In His Presence
Daniel 3:12 “There are certain Jews whom
thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy
gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
Acts 2:14 “But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:”
What are we to do with ourselves when we know God is with us? When other music plays and they expect conformity as in Daniel, do we bow? When the Spirit prompts us, do we stand in unison declaring our God is great?
Our posture
before God reveals our spiritual attitude.
Pitch, roll, and yaw describes an aircraft’s position in a column of
air. Likewise, Moses landed prostrate on
the ground begging God’s mercy on rebellious Israel. He abased himself in reverence at God’s
feet. God’s presence, his reaction.
If my boss were
to walk into my room, my stance would stiffen and direct me in a
business sort of way. If Dad visited, my greeting would be at the door with a posture of expectation. Likewise, if the president were to pass in a parade, I would compel my children to arise with me.
Jesus left all except
holiness and the presence of His Father.
Armed with these two, He embarked on a physical journey of thirty-three
years. Preaching and instructing, He
carved out a ministry deep into the hill country of Israel. Their spiritual famine welcomed
the Word upon the soil. However, just as dry dirt repels moisture, Jesus’ words did not sink in. Later, the downpour of His Spirit saturated and refused to run
off. Jesus was a prophet. His words fell on deaf ears. Eventually, He took His stand
before the Most Holy. His posture being
a cross, supporting His broken frame.
So, I will
stand. When the music is played, I will
stand. It is the least I can do to show
respect for the Man who stood before God on my behalf. I will be abased. I will be a fool in the world’s eyes. Social pressures will have no grip on me. When I worship, and the King passes before my eyes, I will wave. I will lift these
arms. I will be amongst those counted.
It is not my original nature to revere. I must command
my members to act accordingly. I praise God I can enjoy Him in corporate
worship. Wherever His people are, He is
there. Not confined to a building, He
inhabits the praises of His children.
Today, if given
the chance, I will stand. I simply choose.
