When The Power Of God Comes To The House
When The Power Of God Comes To The House
Luke 10:42 “But one thing is needful: and Mary
hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
An S.O.S. went over the wavelengths last
night. After recovering from another ER visit,
we landed in the house wiped from spending five hours in a small room. My faithful wife, with no complaint on her
lips, drove me home and made sure I was tucked into bed. We have that kind of relationship.
What I don’t have is nearness to the
kitchen sink. With the busyness of the
season, dishes piled up on a full counter.
Canning, baking, etc. showed its casualties of war. In a season declaring open doors, the house
had been run through. As my dad would
have said, “Rode hard and put up wet.”
A simple text message brought wives to the
house this morning. They were armed with
a cleaning intent. Grandchildren hit the
toys, but moms corralled them to a teaching table. Story time on the couch told of what to
do. “What is important?” asked mom. The maxim in instruction was this: It is better to spend quiet time with Jesus
then to busy oneself with works.
A man is not justified by works. The law is meant as a guide. We should not build up what we cannot take to
the coffin. Not, “Look what I did!” Jesus says, “Depart from Me. I never knew you.”
Scary?
Dang right. We must spend our
brief time here developing our relationship with Him. Oh, the usual. Read more Bible. Pray more of those church prayers. Attend functions that talk about Him. White wash the tomb and wonder why the inside
concrete is so cold and uninviting.
What is the secret? Simple honesty. He will meet you in His
word. An excellent start to remind you
there is something greater out there.
Prayer is simple dialogue. Do not
forbid yourself thinking you be foolish.
Talking to Jesus is not insanity.
The world may say you have lost your mind, but He is real. Not an imaginary friend.
Build your faith? This takes an understanding of His ways. What He says, He means. Be it a promise or a rule. He does say, “Whatever a man sows, that He
will surely reap.” God builds His
instructions atop one another. In our striving
to learn the mind of Christ, we must read the Book He has given. Time with Him asking 'why' is a great place to
be.
Mary learned this. Jesus was not unapproachable. She gazed up and pondered words which lasted
forever. “No one has spoken this
way! With authority and wisdom.” She found her gem. It was not in a clean house or the catering
service she could provide. Jesus was her
keep.
Today the power of God came to my
house. They cleaned and put some of the
house back in order. However, the joy which
Grandpa found was paying attention to the little ones. The adults were on a mission. The children were to occupy themselves. They occupied themselves at my feet. Relationships reinforced as I garnished them
with honor.
I have a position. What I pay attention to reflects the eye of
God. I choose to tell little ones they
are important by straining to understand their speech. Important thoughts are behind their words as
they push the English out of their mouths.
So I shine the flashlight on God’s desires. I have spent time with Him, now it is my responsibility
to show others His heart’s affections.
