His First Miracle

John 2: 1 – 11

     This one is complex.  He unfolds understanding then ties it together with His strings of time.  The clue to this passage is His first response to woman, His mother.

John 2:4 “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.”

      What if His hour were this?

Revelation 19:11 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He himself.13 And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.14 And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.”

     Afterall, in John 1 just before the Cana passage, He says this when talking with Nathanael:

John 1:51 “And He saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”

     Could Jesus be talking about His hour of return?  And when He comes, what will He do?

Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.”

     This prophecy is yet to be fulfilled.  We still teach each other.  We are not Israel in this sense.

     What of the six stone pots?  Of significance is Peter, named Cephas by Jesus in John 1.  “A stone.”  Man was created on the sixth day.  So, by linking these two together, Jesus is referring to Israel’s condition.  Stony hearts with spirits like water.

     Now what does He say of the Church?

Acts 2:13 “Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.”

Luke 5:37 “And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.”

      The Church is the new wine skin.  We are filled with Him, and we age with Him.  Our relationship with Him matures over time.  Hence, it is a gradual perfection.

      In contrast, Jesus’ first miracle transforms water to wine immediately.  Also, the Governor of the feast says they saved the best wine for the end.  Jesus shows what will happen instantaneously at His return.

     The Church will be gradually matured while the Jews who persevere through the Tribulation will be transformed immediately at Christ’s return.  Surely, the end will be better than the first.

Infectious Disease

  Infectious Disease      I watch network T.V., the free kind over the airwaves.   It is inundated with self-help medicine commercials.   I think of Sky-ri-zee .   Perhaps this is the concoction for clearer skin.   What wouldn’t an Aaronic priest have given for this special med?   “Got a blemish?   Come closer, son.   Looks like the onset of leprosy.   Go away.   Two pills in the mouth and come back in seven.”   Much of Leviticus would have to be rewritten.   The red heifer sacrifice could be summed up with a cream.   “Touched a dead body?   Rub this on the contact area.   Go away.   Come back tomorrow.”      But what if pills don’t work?   Adam would have O.D.’d on the blue and reds seeking to forget the fall. Thankfully the neighborhood drug store was not on his corner.   He heard vaguely of a savior to come.   God said it was in his genes.   ...

God's Successive Revelations

  God’s Successive Revelations Search Me diligently, and I will reveal Myself to you.      Yah, that sound like something God would say.   I understand He revealed the Trinity to us.   I plead ignorance in Church history.   Some theologians, perhaps 400 A.D. came upon this gem that we hold true today.   The idea of the rapture is new on the Church radar.   Late 1800’s?      What if God revealed His truth to His people in time?   Surely, Solomon was the wisest man in his day, but did he know about Pentecost?   Daniel, the far seer, was only shown glimpses.   What did he know of Peter and miracles in the temple?   A certain king discovered God’s truth again and that made for a reformation, but what did he know of the beast standing in the sea?   God gives insight in His time.      I have trained seven children.   As young  children, I did not flood them with...
