A Kaleidoscope Cafeteria
A Kaleidoscope Cafeteria
Genesis 11:6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all
one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained
from them, which they have imagined to do.7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound
their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence
upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.9 Therefore is the name
of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language
of all the earth: and from thence did
the Lord scatter
them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Beautiful.
That’s what I call it.
Sitting at my cafeteria table, I hear different
tongues about me. Peoples from all over the
world like dining at our beef harvesting facility. A testimony of the menu’s draw? In the bigger room, we handle knives to
separate lean from fat making educated cuts.
Differing ethnicities cooperate to get the job done. The company emphasizes fair play with
respect. It works hard to harmonize the
division God ordained.
Why would God frustrate languages? He desires Mankind to be unified. The Tower of Babel makes no sense if we stand
in its shadow. Out of darkness, He calls
our understanding.
“now nothing will be
restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”
God halted organized crime. Adam’s nature was passed down to those journeying
from the east. The tower showed unity achieved. What would be next? Tall gallows to serve the elite? Although unified in speech, social stratification
would define the ‘have’ and the ‘have nots.’
Future prejudice threatened to pit group against gathering.
The crowd proved
ineffective. Ignoring God’s command to fill
the earth, they sought a city instead. To
subdue required a pioneering spirit. God
witnessed their progress and brought rapid judgement. Like a cue ball to the rack, He struck them
to disperse. God in His provision, brought
division.
Beautiful
still. A kaleidoscope of peoples unique. I listen to tongues of languages about my
table. God has supernaturally separated the spectrum from one source, and I
enjoy the variations.
