Deep Seated Within
Deep Seated Within
The
baptism of the Holy Ghost affirms the believer that they belong to God.
1. Jesus’ water baptism then Holy Ghost baptism.
“Thou art My beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22b
2. At Pentecost, the Spirit gave them
utterance. Acts 2:4
“but ye have received the Spirit
of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15
“..we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.” Acts 2:11
The people at Pentecost praised God for this new relationship, not for the sign.
3. The Gentile house of Cornelius
received the Holy Ghost. They now
belonged to the God and were baptized with water as an outward expression
identifying them with Christ.
Acts 10:44 “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell
on all them which heard the word.45 And they of the circumcision which believed were
astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles
also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and
magnify God. Then answered Peter,47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not
be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”
Most reborn Christians can tell you the
time and place. This significant event
stands apart. Indelibly etched in the
mind and captured in the soul, the individual can rehearse the day they met
God.
We need not sensationalize conversion by requiring
outward expressions. God works
independently of denominations. Hence,
He is in the father business regardless of the group’s belief in the supernatural
manifestations of the Spirit (like tongues).
John 3:5 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
God.”
Jesus ties in the metaphor of water. As a woman’s water breaks physically, a believer
is birthed spiritually by going under then outward to newness.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.”
Only the Holy Spirit can create new. Like begets like and our spirit is remade.
Luke 1:35a “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost
shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:”
Baptism means to go under. Spiritual submersion welcomes Jesus into your
heart. Your new identity is deep seated
giving confidence you are a child of God.
